if you have the money to do it, and not worry about it, it would do fine here. The college is growing, and more students are going to be coming in. Plus, all the people that are already here, will embrace it.

I've had an idea for a couple years now. for those without kids you won't fully understand but here goes. the back part of Magic Mart (if they are still wanting to lease it out) would be perfect for a kids party place. look at Mr Gaties, always have a Bday party going on during the weekend and at times 3 going at the same time. you take the back part of the Magic Mart and make it a kid friendly party place. you can have inflatables for a certain time limit for a play session and have a place to sit down and eat. (they can bring their own food or pay to have the place bring in pizza) and open presents. It would be big enough to have at least 2 play rooms and 2 eating rooms. heck, using the outside part put in a small go cart track or something. That place would BOOM during the cold months and maybe even in the middle of summer. Have the weekend by appoinment only (walk-ups accepted if space is avaliable) and have it open to the public throgh the week for kids to just go in and play.

Does that space have the appropriate plumbing and public restrooms for something like that?

I'd think it should be easy enough to add since everything is already there. just a little work but I could be wrong

I think they went about that too wrong... they wanted to go BIG like O'Charley's and such, but they tried to keep those prices the same as 1999 and it couldn't cover. Their portions are so freakin' huge, too...

Yes, the one in JC is going strong and is still great... that's the size I'd want to open!... and if I'm not mistaken, they still have the other place in Johnson City, too.... is it called Jack's or something, next to electric cowboy?

I don't care who it is or what they say you do not open a business just to break even or make a very small profit just as a "luxury idea". To open the type of place you are describing will need an initial investment of at least $150,000-300,000. I used the Poor Farm as an example because I believe it was some young guy just out of college that had these same ideas that everyone has and actually had access to the money to take action on it by way of his parents (just don't think they were willing/able to sacrifice as much as was needed) and you see where that ended. You are correct that it would take someone with money already and would be able to put the initial money into it and be able and willing to lose the first 1.5-3 years till they recoup the initial investment and then able to cover expenses and start making money. But if after 5 years the place isn't making a very very good profit they will shut it down and put their money elsewhere to increase their wealth.

Yeah, that's the whole thing no one is understanding. No one EVER opens something up just a luxury for other people.
My ultimate goal is to have a live music venue/bar that brings in national acts like the Orange Peel/National, etc... If I were loaded in money, that would be something I'd just open for fun, but I would expect to make money off of it.
